Staggering Tragedy as 72-Yr-Old Driver Ignores Signals, Hitting Police Sergeant
A police sergeant has been left with serious injuries after being struck by a car while escorting a Cavadee procession at midday. The officer was rushed to the North Hospital (SSRN), where he remains admitted for treatment following the incident.
Investigation Underway
Preliminary findings suggest the sergeant was hit by a vehicle driven by a 72-year-old man.
According to police reports, officers had signalled for the driver to stop; however, the vehicle continued forward, colliding with the sergeant.
The driver has since been questioned by investigators. In his statement, the 72-year-old claimed he did not see the officer’s signal to halt.
Determining Circumstances
Authorities have officially opened an investigation to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the collision.
At the time of the accident, the sergeant was performing escort duties for the religious procession.
