MK's New CCO, Ziyaad Parthasee Takes the Helm After Recoura's Exit

In a move that has sparked widespread criticism within the airline, Air Mauritius has officially appointed Ziyaad Parthasee, a manager at Airmate, as its new Chief Commercial Officer.

The decision was communicated to employees via an internal memo, which has raised concerns about the appointment of someone from a rival company to lead the airline’s commercial operations.

Parthasee replaces Laurent Recoura, who was suspended from his duties on Tuesday, May 21.

The reasons for Recoura’s suspension are described as “serious matters” in the memo.

Parthasee is expected to take up his new role immediately and will remain in the position until further notice.

It is clear that Parthasee has been a long-time contender for the role of Chief Commercial Officer.

Recoura himself mentioned this situation in a letter to Air Mauritius’ board of directors on Monday, citing pressures from CEO Charles Cartier.

Parthasee’s career path has been marked by rapid ascension. He was a simple employee at Airmate when it was founded under the leadership of Sushil Baguant from 2006 to 2007.

However, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming responsible for managing commercial reservations at Air Mauritius for several years.

Notably, he has handled the logistics of travel for high-profile individuals, including VIPs, former CEOs, and presidents, often for their families.

It is worth noting that Parthasee has been a member of the Operations Advisory Committee since CEO Charles Cartier’s arrival.

This committee was established to provide strategic guidance and support to the airline’s operations.

Many employees have expressed confusion and dismay over the appointment, questioning how someone from Airmate could be placed in charge of Air Mauritius’ commercial operations when the airline has its own competent staff in this area.

The decision is likely to spark further debate and scrutiny within the Air Mauritius.
