India Approves 14K Million Tonnes Rice Exports to Mauritius

This decision comes after the government had previously banned the export of non-basmati white rice in July 2023, with exceptions made for countries in need of food security and with specific requests for the product.

The export of the 14,000 MT of non-basmati white rice to Mauritius will be facilitated through the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), as announced by the DGFT.

India has seen a decrease in the export of non-basmati white rice in the past year, with $790.58 million worth of the product exported in April-February FY24 compared to $2.2 billion in FY23.

During the fiscal year 2023-24, Kenya, Mozambique, and Vietnam were the top destinations for Indian non-basmati white rice, with Mauritius receiving $7.48 million worth of the product.

This move is set to allow the export of non-basmati white rice to Mauritius reflects India’s commitment to meeting the food security needs of its trading partners while also promoting its agricultural exports.
