No New Mandate for Mauritius PM, Claims Leftist Party Leader

Ashok Subron, leader of Rezistans ek Alternativ (ReA), unequivocally stated that they will not grant an additional mandate to the Jugnauth government.

He made this statement during a press conference held at the party headquarters in Moka. Subron also announced an upcoming meeting between ReA leaders, the leader of the Labour Party, Navin Ramgoolam, and the leader of MMM, Paul Bérenger, to discuss their program in support of workers.

Regarding Labour Day, Subron emphasized its significance this year due to the upcoming general elections.

He urged workers to participate in a protest march in Saint-Jean, where they will advocate for a 40-hour work week, the reintroduction of the National Pension Scheme, aligning universal pensions with the minimum wage, abolishing bogus disciplinary committees, and constitutional changes to eliminate communalism.

Reflecting on the rift within the PTr-MMM-PMSD alliance following the withdrawal of the Blues, Subron believes there is a lesson to be learned.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing a societal project that defends the interests of the population and workers’ demands.

Subron highlighted the need for politicians to set aside personal interests and power-seeking tendencies when forming electoral alliances.

He stressed that citizens today expect politicians to present ideas and programs aligned with their aspirations.
