Heroic Dive: Taxi Driver Saves Drowning Sailor at Caudan Waterfront

In a daring act of heroism, taxi driver Lockman Jokhoo dove into the sea at Caudan Waterfront on Saturday afternoon to rescue a foreign sailor in distress.

The sailor, whose identity remains unidentified at present, was rushed to Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Doctors have indicated that he is now out of danger. The Port Police has launched an investigation into the incident.

According to Lockman Jokhoo, who shared his account with the Défi Media Group, recounted how he noticed the struggling sailor while waiting for a client.

Without hesitation, he plunged into the water to come to the man’s aid. The taxi driver managed to reach the victim and bring him back to a nearby boat.

Once onboard, he performed CPR on the unconscious Asian man before the arrival of emergency medical services. “He was gasping for air and almost drowning,” recounted the resident of Ward 4 in Port Louis.

Despite the unexpected turn of events, the taxi driver shared that while he was focused on rescuing the sailor from drowning, the individual seemed to have only one concern – to save his cell phone.

“The man was only holding on to his phone during the ordeal,” said Lockman Jokhoo.
