‘Politicians To Get Beating’, Residents Warn Amid Water Crisis

Residents in the village of Panchvati in Mauritius are angry about the lack of running water in their homes, with some living without water for months.

One resident, Omesh Ramchurn, filmed himself doing his laundry outside a water board office, an action that drew thousands of views on Facebook.

According to Ramchurn, the authorities provide water for two days after he pleads with them but then the situation reverts to the previous drought.

While other areas have running water, residents say they have to travel long distances to collect water from a local temple.

Cattle in the area are also suffering due to a lack of access to clean drinking water.

“Politicians will get a beating if they come here begging for votes at the next elections,” they explained.
