MRA refunds 86,069 taxpayers for income taxes

The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has reimbursed 86,069 taxpayers to date in regards to income tax, according to recent reports.

In total, 87,123 refund requests were submitted this year, which represents a 12% increase from last year. Meanwhile, the number of taxpayers who submitted tax returns rose by 17.1% from 2019 to 2020, increasing from 236,438 to 276,936 taxpayers. 

Some 41% of those were not subject to any taxes. Furthermore, 72,758 taxpayers paid additional taxes alongside their income tax this year for a total of MUR 2.8billion, the same as last year.

Some 51% of personal income tax (PIT) came from just 7,412 taxpayers with an annual income of Rs2.5million or more.
