Employees in Mauritius' Casinos Threaten to Stage protests and General Strike

Employees of casinos in Mauritius are getting ready for a general strike and protest due to their frustration with precarious working conditions and unfair practices.

They are denouncing insufficient wages, non-payment of the 14-month salary and excessive working hours.

The demonstration is expected to take place in the coming weeks, with the objective of changing the situation in the State Investment Corporation (SIC).

A call for a general strike may follow if the demonstration fails to produce the desired outcome.

The delay of renewal of the collective agreement has caused further frustration amongst the employees.

SIC has acknowledged the challenges of finding resources to pay the 14th-month salary of employees, but it also states that the employees are “free to do as they wish”.
