Water Reservoirs' Filling Rate Drops by 19% as Dry Season Approaches

Mauritius faces the possibility of a severe drought, similar to the one experienced in 2022.

Current reservoir levels are at 72.8%, nearly 4% lower than at the same time last year.

Meteorological forecasts predict a lack of significant rainfall in the coming weeks, exacerbating the situation.

The seven reservoirs on the island have seen a rapid 19% drop in their fill rate in just seven weeks.

If this trend continues, authorities may need to implement more drastic water conservation measures.

Residents in northern regions, particularly Triolet, have been grappling with water shortages for over a year, leading to growing frustration and calls for solutions.

Some experts suggest considering seawater desalination projects to address water shortages in the long term.
