Cader Sayed Hossen, a candidate from the Labour Party who lost in the 2019 elections, has withdrawn his electoral petition in the Supreme Court.

He expressed disappointment over having to restart the case due to a judge’s retirement.

Hossen emphasized that their dispute is with the authorities, not the court, and criticized the Electoral Commissioner for opposition.

The Commissioner had been hesitant to provide specific answers about the vote count.

Hossen discussed the matter with the Labour Party leader, Navin Ramgoolam, who supported his decision.

Previously, Judges Benjamin Marie Joseph and Raatna Seetohul-Toolsee were overseeing the case, but after Joseph’s retirement, it was passed to Senior Puisne Judge Nirmala Devat and Judge David Chan.

The hearings were initially set for October 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
