Lawyer arrested over conspiracy charges

Me Melany Nagen, the lawyer representing Muay Thai Champion and alleged drug trafficker Vimen Sabapati, has been arrested following an interrogation by the CID Port-Louis South.

The development comes in the wake of an investigation triggered by the discovery of a mobile phone in her client’s cell.

Me Melany Nagen is expected to appear in the Port-Louis court today, where she is likely to face a provisional charge of conspiracy.

Earlier this week, Vimen Sabapati’s wife was also arrested in connection with the same case.

Authorities allege that Vimen Sabapati attempted to contact his partner using the mobile phone. After paying bail, Jessica Sabapati was released.
