Mauritius’s RT Knits to Achieve 100% Electricity Autonomy by 2024
RT Knits, a prominent circular knitting company based in Mauritius, has announced its ambitious plan to achieve complete energy self-sufficiency by 2024, surpassing its initial target set for 2030 by a remarkable six years.
The company took a significant step towards this goal with the inauguration of its 1 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in September 2022, which currently provides 17% of the factory’s power needs.
This initiative was made possible through RT Knits’ collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities in spearheading negotiations for the CEB CNIS (Carbon Neutral Industrial Sector) RE (Renewable Energy) Scheme. CEO Kendall Tang expressed confidence in the scheme’s potential to substantially reduce carbon emissions within the Mauritian textile industry.
In addition to these efforts, RT Knits has formally committed to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), pledging to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2040.
