Omnicane’s ambitious Mon Trésor Smart City project, launched in 2016 with a planned investment exceeding Rs 20 billion, was abandoned due to financial challenges.

In 2022, Omnicane sold its lands to the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC) for Rs 4.45 billion.

The MIC now holds a Smart City Certificate issued by the Economic Development Board (EDB) and plans to revamp the project, now referred to as the MIC Smart City.

While specific timelines remain undisclosed, the MIC reportedly intends to revise the project with a focus on sustainability and ecological considerations.

The MIC Smart City is part of a broader trend in the southern region of Mauritius, which is witnessing several smart city initiatives.
