Contraction by 0.6% of Broad Money Liabilities

Broad Money Liabilities (BML) contracted by 0.6% between end-August 2021 and end- July 2021, mostly reflecting a drop in deposit liabilities, according to the Bank of Mauritius.
In its ‘Monetary Developments: August 2021’ issued on September 30, the Economic Analysis & Research and Statistics Department of the Central Bank said, year-on-year, growth of BML slowed from 19.9% in July 2021 to 19.1% in August 2021.
Over the month, net foreign assets (NFA) of depository corporations went up by 7.0% to Rs863.1 billion. Y-o-y, NFA grew by 12.0%, compared to a growth of 16.3% in July 2021.
Claims on other sectors (excluding financial derivatives) fell by 0.2% to Rs600.8 billion in August 2021.
Y-o-y, claims on other sectors (excluding financial derivatives) rose by 18.8% in August 2021, compared to an increase of 18.6% in July 2021.
Net claims on central government declined by 6.9% to Rs105.1 billion in August 2021.
