Slight drop in August trade deficit, but stays at over Rs10billion

Latest figures by Statistics Mauritius show that total imports decreased by 1.6% compared to July 2021 while total exports in August 2021 decreased by 2.8% compared to July 2021.

According to the Monthly External Merchandise Trade Statistics – August 2021, Statistics Mauritius said this resulted in a slight drop in trade deficit for August at Rs 10.47 billion as compared to Rs 10.55 billion for July.

In August 2021, the main export destinations were South Africa (11.5%), France (9.4%), United States (8.6%), Madagascar (7.8%), Vietnam (7.0%) and United Kingdom (6.6%).

Imports were mainly from China (22.0%), India (14.0%), U.A.E (10.6%), France (5.9%), South Africa (5.8%) and the United States (3.5%).
