Former Le Mauricien editor, Sydney Selvon, passes away

Mauritius mourns the demise of Sydney Selvon, 73, former Member of Parliament (MMM) and ex-editor of Le Mauricien newspaper.

Sydney Selvon has also been Mauritian Ambassador to Australia and penned several books on the history of Mauritius.

He has been active over decades defending freedom of the press: he was a founder member and general secretary of the Association of Journalists of Mauritius.

He won the Prix Marcel Cabon (Best Reporter award) in 1979 and was the recipient of the Nicolas Lambert Prize (Journalist of the Year) in 1980.

NEWSMORIS team conveys its sincere condolences to his widow, Danielle and their children.
