Authorities are facing urgent questions after a 150-metre stretch of Tamarin’s coastline saw its beach recede by nearly 30 metres in just a matter of days.

The unprecedented rate of erosion has sparked immediate debate over whether the sudden loss of land is a natural “climatic accident” or the direct result of controversial local planning and land development.

It is worth highlighting that emergency operations commenced during low tide on 30 April to implement “rapid and temporary” protective measures.

Jogeeswar Seewoobaduth, the Director of the Environment, addressed the crisis during an appearance on the programme Soirée sans filtre.

The discussion centered on the rapid disappearance of the sand, which has vanished across a significant portion of the popular coastal area in record time.

While the exact cause remains a subject of intense local scrutiny, the scale of the retreat—affecting a 150-metre expanse—has heightened concerns regarding the environmental management of the region.

Investigations into the contested development projects in the area are expected to continue as officials determine the primary driver behind this coastal shift.
