World Knits Enters Voluntary Administration Putting 550 Manufacturing Roles at Immediate Risk
Mauritian textile manufacturer World Knits has been placed into voluntary administration following a threat of liquidation, putting the future of 550 workers at its Quartier-Militaire factory in the balance.
The company’s board of directors pre-emptively appointed Rajeev Basgeet of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as administrator to spearhead recovery efforts, according to an official statement released on Tuesday 26 May.
The decision follows a challenging period for the textile firm. Management revealed that a turnaround plan had previously been submitted in January 2026, which successfully allowed factory operations to continue until recently.
However, voluntary administration was ultimately triggered to protect the business as the threat of total liquidation intensified.
Workforce Awaits Crucial Talks
Union negotiator Atma Shanto confirmed that 550 employees are directly affected by the administration.
While workers face immediate uncertainty regarding the future of the company and potential job preservation measures, management noted that a large portion of outstanding salary arrears has already been settled.
A critical meeting between the workforce, the newly appointed PwC administrator, and company management is scheduled to take place this morning to provide further clarity on the next steps for the business.
