Private Healthcare Counters 2 Major Allegations Regarding Pricing & Medical Prescriptions
Mauritian healthcare provider C-Care Group has issued a formal response to concerns raised in a press interview, clarifying that an internal miscommunication led to misunderstandings with a patient which have now been resolved.
Responding directly to an interview published in the Week-End newspaper on 17 May 2026, the group stated it takes the matter with the utmost seriousness.
Officials confirmed that C-Care Darné has at no point sought to evade its responsibilities or ignore the concerns raised, noting that there was a genuine intention to offer financial support to the patient via a preferential tariff structure.
The misunderstandings have since been clarified through direct contact and collaboration with the individual concerned.
Dual-Pricing and Unnecessary Prescriptions Denied
In a bid to clarify its operational policies, the healthcare group firmly denied implementing any price disparities between insured and uninsured individuals.
“C-Care applies no tariff differences between insured patients and non-insured patients,” the group stated in an official communiqué. “Rates for hospital services remain identical, regardless of the payment method used.”
The company clarified that while the group defines fees for rooms and hospital services, doctors’ fees are the sole professional responsibility of the medical practitioners and are not set by C-Care.
Furthermore, the group formally refuted allegations of encouraging unnecessary medical practices.
The administration stated that no group establishment incentivises the excessive prescription of laboratory tests, imaging, or other medical services.
Additionally, no commissions or financial remunerations are paid to doctors based on the examinations they prescribe.
Medical Decisions and Clinical Balance
According to the communiqué, clinical decisions and interventions ordered by physicians operating within C-Care facilities rely exclusively on medical considerations.
These are intended to establish precise diagnoses and ensure optimal patient care.
The group highlighted the delicate daily balancing act faced by healthcare professionals on the ground:
- Over-prescribing: Risks drawing criticism for being excessive.
- Under-prescribing: Risks missing an essential diagnosis, which can lead to potentially grave consequences for the patient.
C-Care maintained that quality care begins fundamentally with a rigorous diagnosis.
Transparency Measures and Governance
To aid patient understanding of healthcare costs, the group highlighted its dedicated pre-admission and counselling service.
For all scheduled surgical procedures, the hospital’s IT system generates a detailed cost estimate, which is shared with the patient.
This data is securely stored and remains accessible at any time upon request.
Looking forward, the group noted it is continuing to develop its compliance framework to reinforce governance and ethical standards.
This involves contractual agreements with doctors, suppliers, and partners, alongside a Code of Conduct applicable to all stakeholders.
The C-Care Group reaffirmed its commitment to delivering healthcare services based on quality, integrity, transparency, and the best interests of its patients.
