Met Station Warns of Dangerous 3.5 Metre Waves in Western and Southern Lagoons
Authorities have advised the public against all excursions in the open sea and within the western and southern lagoons this Saturday, 2 May, as wave heights are expected to reach up to 3.5 metres.
While a formal heavy swell warning is no longer in effect for Mauritius, the local meteorological station confirmed in its Saturday morning, 2 May, bulletin that sea conditions remain hazardous.
Although energetic swells are gradually subsiding, the open sea remains “strong,” posing continued risks for maritime activities.
Weather Outlook and Intermittent Rain
The unsettled maritime conditions are being accompanied by clouds moving in from the south-east.
Over the next 24 hours, the island can expect partly cloudy skies, turning overcast at intervals.
Intermittent rain is forecast throughout the morning and afternoon, particularly across the East, the South, and the Central Plateau.
Overnight, the sky will remain generally partly cloudy, with light rain expected over higher ground.
Temperature and Wind Forecast
Temperatures across the island are set to remain moderate. The forecast includes:
- Central Plateau: Highs of 22°C to 25°C; lows of 19°C to 21°C.
- Coastal Regions: Highs of 27°C to 29°C; lows of 23°C to 25°C.
Wind speeds are expected to remain steady from the south-east at approximately 20 km/h. However, the meteorological station warned of stronger gusts, which could reach up to 50 km/h in certain areas.
