‘Crackdown’ Sees 10 Hypermarkets Checked in Rose-Hill Price Sweep

The Consumer Protection Unit conducted a price-control ‘Crackdown’ operation in several hypermarkets in and around Rose-Hill today, 29th August, following recent government-mandated price reductions on essential goods. The aim was to ensure that a recent price drop on essential products, which came into effect last Tuesday, 26th August, was being applied correctly.

No fines were issued during the morning’s checks, according to Vicky Beetun, a Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Commerce.

The Minister of Commerce, Michael Sik Yuen, was unable to participate in the operation as he is currently on an overseas mission.

Edley Chimon, another advisor at the ministry, has encouraged the public to report any price irregularities they encounter by calling the hotline at 185.

The operation focused on a range of essential items, including powdered milk, cooking oil, cheese, baby formula, and nappies.
