The DPP was seeking the Supreme Court’s authorization to challenge, through a Judicial Review application, the presidential pardon granted to Chandra Prakash Dip, son of CP, Anil Kumar Dip.

Chandra Prakash Dip, a former auditor at De Chazal Du Mée (DCDM), obtained the presidential pardon on December 27, 2022.

He received a lighter sentence after applying to the Mercy Committee. The 12-month prison term imposed on him on February 26, 2018, by the intermediate court, was commuted to a fine of Rs 100,000.

This was in a case of conspiracy to commit fraud against The Diadeis Maurice Ltée company.

In a judgment delivered by Judges Iqbal Maghooa and Pravin Harrah, they ruled that the Mercy Committee is in charge of its own procedures.
