Recruitment Law voted
The Private Recruitment Agencies Bill passed without amendments in the National Assembly on the evening of October 17, 2023.
This legislation now mandates a license for operating a recruitment agency and employing workers in Mauritius or abroad.
Importantly, no worker may be charged for any recruitment-related fees, including their travel expenses.
The primary goal is to repeal the existing worker recruitment law and replace it with a more suitable legislative framework.
In alignment with recommendations from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), this new legislation is intended to strengthen and consolidate the regulations governing the recruitment of Mauritian workers for employment both domestically and overseas, as well as the recruitment of foreign workers for employment in Mauritius.
