32-Yr Expert Sanjay Ghag Appointed to Boost India-Mauritius Trade
Mr Sanjay P. Ghag, a seasoned expert in Project Development and Financing in the Infrastructure PPP sector, has been appointed as the Chief Representative in Mauritius by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
With over 32 years of experience in infrastructure project development, financing, and investment in the Middle East, Africa, and India, his appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen economic ties between India and Mauritius, as well as the African economy.
Mr. Ghag, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, most recently worked with Kukuza Project Development Company (KPDC) in Mauritius, a joint venture promoted by the African Development Bank, Exim Bank of India, State Bank of India, and Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS).
His expertise lies in facilitating the conception and development of infrastructure PPP projects in African countries.
Having started his career with Mahindra Infrastructure Developers in India, Mr. Ghag successfully managed the Tirupur Water Supply Project, the first water privatization initiative in India.
He then gained experience in the Middle East and Asia regions with the Saudi Arabian Amiantit Group, followed by roles in principal investing with Gulf One Investment Bank in Bahrain, and heading infrastructure investments for Bahrain-based Oasis Capital Bank.
In his new role, Mr. Ghag is expected to collaborate with corporations, government agencies, and industry organizations to boost trade and investment between India and Mauritius.
The two countries have a strong relationship, with Mauritius being India’s largest trading partner and importer of goods and services.
In November 2023, India exported $136 million and imported $5.27 million from Mauritius, resulting in a positive trade balance of $130 million.
Overall, Mr. Ghag’s appointment is set to enhance cooperation between India and Mauritius, further strengthening their economic ties through infrastructure investments and project development on a Public Private Partnership basis.

Mr. Ghag shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I am honoured to represent the Indian Chamber of Commerce as its Chief Representative in Mauritius.
