Mauritius looking for experts to help put up ESG Framework
Local authorities are reportedly looking for local and foreign experts to elaborate the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Framework that is planned to be introduced this year.
The objective is to ensure that investments – which are channelled to African projects – are aligned with ESG principles.
Speaking on the growing interest in ESG projects, Shahannah Abdoolakhan, CEO of Abler Consulting, warned against the risks of “greenwashing” – where companies make false or exaggerated marketing claims that their products and services are compliant with ESG principles.
Saurav Chatterjee, CEO of Care Ratings Africa (Private) Limited said the ESG framework will not be compulsory for companies engaged in financial services – “but they will be able to attract certain types of investments if they are compliant.”
