CWA boss resigns, the fourth to quit within two years

Rooben Maran, General Manager of the Central Water Authority, has reportedly resigned from his post, only three months after his appointment. He reportedly submitted his resignation letter on December 31, 2021.

L’Express highlighted that he is the fourth GM of the CWA to resign within two years.

Maran, an engineer, was appointed at the helm of the CWA by the Cabinet on September 24, succeeding to Hoolash Lochee, whose contract had been terminated in unclear circumstances. Earlier GMs were Yousouf Ismael and Chandrassen Matadeen.

The newspaper cited CWA chairman Ashish Kumar Nilamber as stating that Maran resigned over personal reasons.

However, recent shortages and erratic distribution of water leading to protests in several regions, including Case Noyale and Bambous-Virieux, are said to have triggered the decision.
