Either cheap or no gifts for the children this Christmas

End-of-year expenses will drop significantly, according to Defi Media, as it reported on the latest findings of a new survey conducted by Retail Scan Services.

The number of households that intend to bring down Christmas-related expenses to less than Rs1000 on gifts has almost doubled, from 6.9% in 2020 to 12.1% in 2021.

The percentage of those who will spend between Rs1,000 to Rs3,000 is also on the rise – from 35.5% in 2020 to 47.5% in 2021.

Lesser households will spend between Rs3,000 and Rs5,000 – from 39.4% in 2020 to 24.4 in 2021. Those who will spend more than Rs5,000 are also lesser in number: from 28.2% in 2020 to 15.9% in 2021.

Almost 17.3% will not spend any money on gifts this year.

42% will celebrate Christmas, but intend to bring some changes this time around. 39.% will not celebrate fully because of COVID-19 related complications.

7.3% will not celebrate Christmas this year.
