Acclaimed trumpeter Claudio Cassimally bids the world adieu
Claudio Cassimally, the former trumpeter of the police band and acclaimed entertainer, has passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at his home in Belle-Étoile, Coromandel.
He was 79 years old and his memory is cherished by thousands of Mauritian couples who had him play the trumpet and the pan flute at their wedding ceremony.
Defi Media recalled that Claudio Cassimally was made a Member of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (MSK) in 2018. The title was conferred to him for his contribution to the field of music.
Claudio Cassimally started his career in the police band and then went solo to play the trumpet and the pan flute in hotel resorts. He was among the first to set up a professional studio and has recorded several artists from various musical genres.
Claudio Cassimally survived a stroke some ten years ago that left him with a speech impairment. His younger musician friends paid him regular visits and would come around to play for him.
