Overnight Temperatures Forecasted to Drop to 15C on the Central Plateau

A relatively cold and moderate airstream has begun sweeping across the region, driven by a high-pressure system positioned to the south of the Mascarenes.

The Vacoas meteorological station issued a bulletin this Monday morning, 8 June, warning the public of strong winds and hazardous maritime conditions, while advising against sea excursions in specific areas.

Heavy Seas and Gale-Force Gusts

The weather bureau has strongly discouraged outings in the open sea, as well as within the southern and eastern lagoons, due to rough sea conditions featuring waves reaching heights of approximately 2.5 metres beyond the reefs.

However, authorities noted that conditions within the southern and eastern lagoons are expected to gradually improve over the course of the afternoon.

The cold weather system is accompanied by an east-south-easterly wind blowing at around 25 km/h. Coastal areas and exposed sectors could see gusts peaking at up to 55 km/h throughout the day.

Dropping Temperatures Across the Region

Following early morning drizzle observed in the south-east and across the central plateau, daytime conditions are forecast to be generally fair.

Despite the clearer skies, temperatures will remain noticeably cool:

  • Highlands: Maximum daytime temperatures will hover between 20°C and 23°C.
  • Coastal Regions: Highs will range from 25°C to 28°C.

As night falls, skies are expected to become partly cloudy, bringing occasional showers over the higher ground.

Temperatures will drop significantly overnight, with minimum lows oscillating between 15°C and 17°C on the central plateau, and remaining between 19°C and 21°C along the coast.
