Blaze Destroys Cabin Cruiser Causing Rs 6.8M In Damages at Pointe-aux-Sables
A pleasure boat has been completely destroyed by a fire in Petit-Verger, Pointe-aux-Sables, resulting in estimated financial losses of Rs 6.8 million.
No casualties were reported in the incident, which occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, 6 June. Police investigators are currently treating the fire as accidental.
Maintenance Work Underway
The blaze broke out at approximately 4:30 pm while the “Cabin Cruiser” style vessel was parked on the premises of a local business. The boat had been stationed at the site for some time undergoing maintenance work.
Firefighters were alerted to the emergency and intervened quickly, successfully bringing the flames under control. Despite their rapid response, the vessel sustained heavy damage.
Engine Started Prior to Fire
According to initial findings from the investigation, an employee was carrying out maintenance tasks when the incident took place.
The worker reportedly stated that he had started the engine to recharge the battery before walking away to attend to other duties. Shortly afterwards, he noticed smoke escaping from the boat.
Officers from the Petite-Rivière Criminal Investigation Division (CID), assisted by forensics experts from the Scene of Crime Office, attended the scene to conduct inquiries.
