Diesel prices in Mauritius unlikely to decrease for 12-18 months

Rajiv Servansingh, the director of the State Trading Corporation (STC), has stated that it would take at least 12 to 18 months before diesel prices in Mauritius would see a decrease.

The deficit for gasoline has been addressed within eight to nine months due to falling international prices, but the deficit for diesel, estimated at around Rs 3 billion, remains.

Servansingh attributed the high diesel prices to European countries stocking up on diesel for heating during winter.

However, he said that with the arrival of summer in Europe, the demand could decrease and prices will follow suit.

The STC also plans to expand into petroleum product exports to support Mauritius’ goal of becoming a bunkering hub.

Additionally, the STC boss said Vivo Energy and Indian Oil have expressed interest to market higher-priced fuel with additives for improved vehicle performance.
