Unstable Weather May Trigger Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and 3 Metre Swells

Moist and unstable conditions are expected to sweep in from the east this Thursday, 23 April, prompting authorities to advise the public to seek shelter and avoid the sea.

Residents should prepare for a day of overcast skies and frequent showers, which may turn heavy and be accompanied by thunderstorms.

In addition to the rainfall, fog is expected to develop, particularly across higher ground, significantly reducing visibility for motorists.

Safety Warnings and Sea Conditions

Safety officials have issued a firm advisory for the duration of the stormy weather. Members of the public are urged to:

• Remain sheltered during thundery outbreaks.
• Avoid open plains and hiking trails.
• Refrain from seeking shelter under trees.
• Avoid all maritime activities.

Conditions at sea are described as “rough” beyond the reefs, with south-westerly swells reaching heights of up to 3 metres.

Consequently, all excursions into the open sea are strongly discouraged.

Wind and Temperatures

The region will be buffeted by easterly winds averaging 20 km/h, though gusts could reach speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Temperature fluctuations will be notable across different elevations. On the high ground, daytime highs will hover between 25°C and 27°C, dropping to a minimum of 19°C to 21°C overnight.

Coastal areas will remain warmer, with maximum temperatures reaching between 29°C and 32°C, and evening lows staying within the 23°C to 25°C range.

Road users are being urged to exercise extreme caution, as the combination of heavy showers and patchy fog is expected to create hazardous driving conditions throughout the day.
