Plaisance Airport Parallel Runway Project to Impact 61 Properties In Mauritius

A crucial preliminary report detailing land acquisition for the proposed parallel runway at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is expected to be finalised in May 2026, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam has confirmed.

The report marks a significant step forward for the infrastructure project, which currently remains in the “preparatory technical stages.”

Once completed, the findings will pave the way for formal negotiations with local property owners.

Valuation and Negotiations

The Prime Minister’s update came via a written response in the National Assembly following a parliamentary question from MMM MP Tony Apollon.

According to the statement, the government’s approach will prioritise negotiation over immediate acquisition, using reconstruction costs as a “maximum reference value.”

Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML) is currently reviewing a preliminary report submitted on 2 February 2026.

This document must secure the necessary authorisations before any discussions with landowners can officially begin.

Project Continuity

To ensure consistency, AML has re-engaged the original consultants first appointed in 2019.

This team, consisting of a chartered valuation surveyor and a land surveyor, was officially solicited again on 20 August 2025.

The scope of their work involves re-evaluating and updating existing reports for 61 properties across two key areas:

  • 49 properties in Chat Gaon
  • 12 properties in the village of Solitude

Current Status

Despite the progress in surveying and valuation, the Prime Minister clarified that no formal land acquisitions have been finalised to date.

The project remains contingent on the finalisation of next month’s report and subsequent regulatory approvals.
