Digital Driving Licences and Online Fines Set for Mauritius as State Services Go Mobile

Mauritius is set to introduce digital driving licences and online fine payments as part of a major digitisation drive to centralise public services.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Avinash Ramtohul, who confirmed that a “Digital Driving Licence” is currently being implemented for the island.

In a further move to streamline bureaucracy, citizens will soon be able to settle fines online, with the functionality eventually being integrated into the national mobile platform.

App Integration

The news follows the official launch of the Government Information Service (GIS) mobile application on Friday in Ebène.

In a strategic move to simplify access to official information, the GIS tool has been fully integrated into the existing national Korek! application.

By grouping these services under a single, secure portal, the government aims to create a “one-stop shop” for public information and administrative tasks.

Utilities and Future Features

Among the immediate updates to the platform, users can now access real-time information regarding electricity supply from the Central Electricity Board (CEB).

The ministry stated that this initiative is part of a broader governmental project to centralise public services.

The long-term goal is for the Korek! app to serve as the primary hub for civic duties, including the aforementioned payment of fines, significantly easing the administrative burden on the public.
