Missing Hiker, 26, Found Safe after Night in Black River Gorges

A 26-year-old French tourist has been found safe and well after spending the night lost in the Black River Gorges National Park, emergency services have confirmed.

The man was located at 8:35 am on Tuesday, 2 June, morning following a coordinated search operations effort by local rescue teams.

He was transported to the Yves-Cantin Hospital for a medical examination, which revealed he had suffered no injuries or health issues, allowing him to return to his accommodation.

The incident began at around 2:00 pm on Monday, 1 June, when the young man set off for a hike in the national park. By 4:00 pm, he had lost his way near the Parakeet trail.

As darkness began to fall, the hiker made the decision to halt his journey and spend the night in the forest. He resumed walking at daybreak on Tuesday morning before being successfully located by the emergency services.

The rescue operation was carried out by a joint team consisting of personnel from the Groupe d’Intervention de la Police Mauricienne (GIPM), the Special Mobile Force (SMF), and local firefighters.
