FCC Officers Raid OMCA Offices over Alleged Overseas Medical Irregularities

The Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) has launched a formal investigation into the financial activities of the OMCA (Overseas Medical Care Assistance) Foundation following allegations of fiscal irregularities.

The foundation, which primarily facilitates the medical evacuation of Mauritian patients for treatment abroad, became the subject of intense scrutiny this week as authorities moved to trace the origin and movement of its funds.

Directorial Questioning and Raids

On Tuesday, May 5, Tasleem Dilloo, a director of the OMCA Foundation, was summoned to the FCC headquarters at Réduit Triangle for questioning. Mr Dilloo was permitted to leave following the session.

Coinciding with the interrogation, investigators executed several search warrants across the island.

Raids were conducted at the foundation’s offices in Ébène and Forest-Side, as well as at the private residence of a senior executive in Curepipe.

Officers reportedly seized a significant volume of documentation during these operations.

Scope of the Inquiry

The FCC’s intervention stems from formal complaints alleging financial discrepancies within the organisation.

A key focus of the investigation involves verifying the source of the foundation’s capital, including the specific funds utilised to pay employee salaries.

Defence from Leadership

Speaking to the press upon his departure from the FCC offices, Mr Dilloo maintained that the foundation has operated within the bounds of the law.

He emphasised that the organisation’s accounts are subject to regular audits.

Defending the integrity of the foundation’s mission, Mr Dilloo dismissed the allegations of impropriety.

“It is not a system to scam people; it is a system to save people,” he stated.
