Former Minister Dr Abu Kasenally Passes Away Aged 84

Dr Abu Kasenally, a prominent former cabinet minister and distinguished surgeon, has died at the age of 84 following a long illness.

His passing was confirmed this Monday morning, 27 April, marking the end of a significant career that spanned both the pinnacle of the Mauritian medical profession and high-ranking roles within the national government.

A Legacy in Public Service

Born in Rivière-du-Rempart, Dr Kasenally first rose to prominence as a renowned surgeon.

He left a lasting impact on the public health sector through his leadership as the director of both Jeetoo Hospital and Victoria Hospital.

His transition into frontline politics saw him hold key portfolios, serving as the Minister of Public Utilities and the Minister of Housing and Lands.

Political Career

Dr Kasenally entered Parliament after securing a seat in the 2005 general elections representing Constituency No. 15 (La Caverne–Phoenix).

He successfully sought re-election in 2010, representing the constituency of Rivière-des-Anguilles/Souillac, and remained active in his political duties until 2014.

Funeral Arrangements

Final rites for the former minister are scheduled for 15:00 this Monday, 27 April.

The funeral procession will depart from his residence in Clairfonds, Vacoas, proceeding to the Riche-Terre cemetery for interment.
