A 10 Month Old Baby has Died after Suffering Severe Scalding Burns
A baby boy has died in hospital after suffering severe burns at his family home in Coromandel, police have confirmed. The 10 month old infant, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, 17 February at Victoria Hospital in Candos.
He had been receiving emergency treatment in the specialist burns unit following a domestic accident on Monday afternoon.
Details of the Accident
Initial reports indicate the tragedy occurred while the infant was in a baby walker.
It is understood that a container of hot water accidentally overturned, spilling onto the child and causing critical injuries.
At the time of the incident, both parents were present in the home.
“Despite the medical care provided, the infant succumbed to his injuries during the night,” authorities noted.
Investigation Underway
Following the notification of the death, authorities have launched a formal inquiry. Officers are currently investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the accidental spill to determine how the tragedy unfolded.
