French Universities Set to Open Branches in Mauritius After Landmark Agreement
A landmark agreement between the Mauritian and French authorities has paved the way for French universities to establish independent campuses in Mauritius.
Key Details of the Deal
The announcement was made by the Minister of Higher Education, Kaviraj Sukon, this past Monday, November 24th. The accord creates a formal framework enabling French institutions to operate independently within the island nation.
Universities will have the flexibility to set up operations in one of two ways:
- Via subsidiaries (branch campuses).
- Through partnerships with existing local institutions.
Broader Educational Cooperation
In addition to the main agreement on French university presence, Minister Sukon confirmed the signing of two further agreements.
These parallel accords will specifically authorise Mauritian institutions to offer courses conducted in the French language, strengthening French-language education across the local sector.
