In a statement issued this evening, the National Task Force “strongly reiterates the guidelines regarding the height of kanwars and the materials used for their construction issued by the ministerial committee chaired by the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage.”

The maximum height of a kanwar should not exceed 3 meters in order to avoid contact with overhead cables, whether they be electrical cables, telecommunication cables, lampposts, or metro cables, and also to be able to pass under viaducts or footbridges.

The maximum width of a kanwar should be limited to 2 meters to comply with current regulations for classified and unclassified roads.

The National Task Force issued this statement following the tragedy that occurred in Arsenal late this Sunday afternoon.

The kanwar of a group of pilgrims from Triolet struck a high voltage power line. Result: six dead and ten injured.
