A mother and father have been taken into police custody following the discovery of three young children left unsupervised in an unsanitary home in Vallée-Pitot on Sunday, 22 February.

The siblings, aged between two and four years old, were rescued during a police intervention at the property.

Officers reported that the children were living in “insalubrious” conditions, with one of the toddlers found to be suffering from physical injuries.

Emergency Medical Treatment

Immediately following the intervention, the three children were transported to the Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis. Medical staff confirmed that all three have been admitted and are currently receiving treatment for their condition.

Police Investigation Underway

The parents were apprehended by authorities on the same day the children were discovered.

They remain in police cells as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the neglect.

A formal inquiry has been opened to establish how the toddlers came to be left alone in such a state of squalor.
