A 45-year-old man sparked a police search on Sunday, 15 February, after he fled a hospital without medical authorisation following the ingestion of dangerous chemicals.

The man and his 41-year-old female companion were rushed to hospital on Sunday morning after consuming substances identified as toxic products in the Grand-Sable area.

While the woman remains in a stable condition, the man unexpectedly left the premises shortly after being admitted for care.

The Emergency Response

The alarm was first raised at approximately 09:30, prompting officers from the Grand-Port station to intervene.

Due to the critical nature of the situation, police escorted the pair to Mahébourg Hospital.

Following an initial assessment, medical staff determined that the couple required more intensive treatment, resulting in their transfer to the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle.

Search and Recovery

While the 41-year-old woman was deemed stable by medical professionals, her companion’s decision to leave the ward “without authorisation” triggered immediate concern for his safety.

A police team was dispatched to the man’s residence, where he was located shortly after. Authorities confirmed he was found safe and sound.
