Ex-FCC Commissioner Arrested & Rushed to Hospital After Dramatic Court Collapse
Junaid Haroon Fakim, the former Commissioner of the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), was arrested by his own former agency on Thursday, October 30, in connection with an investigation into alleged influence peddling.
The arrest came as part of the wider inquiry targeting Malagasy businessman Mamy Ravatomanga, who is currently under investigation in Mauritius for suspected money laundering.
Following his detention, the ex-commissioner was taken to Victoria Hospital in Candos for medical examinations after suffering health issues.
During his court appearance at the Rose-Hill district court, Mr. Fakim’s request for release on bail was rejected by the FCC. The matter of his bail will be debated on November 3.
A magistrate subsequently ordered his transfer to Victoria Hospital for state medical examinations.
This was done in the presence of his private doctor, following a motion presented to the court.
A cardiologist was heard during the hearing and explained that Mr. Fakim suffers from health problems.
The former FCC Commissioner was arrested earlier in the day by the Financial Crimes Commission while he was being questioned at the Réduit Triangle premises regarding the Ravatomanga affair.
His questioning focused on the aspect of the investigation concerning influence peddling.
