1000s Warned by Bank of Mauritius After Major Rogers Capital Credit Data Leak
The Bank of Mauritius has issued an urgent public warning this Friday 23 January, following a major data leak at Rogers Capital Credit that has seen sensitive customer information published on the dark web.
The central bank confirmed that customer data was illegally obtained and subsequently leaked online.
Initial assessments by the institution indicate that the breach primarily affects customer records registered up to December 2022.
Highly Sensitive Information Exposed
The nature of the compromised data is described as particularly sensitive. The leaked files include:
- Identification documents: Passport numbers and National Identity Card details.
- Financial records: Proof of address, income statements, and credit history.
- Personal details: Bank account information and civil status records.
Urgent Advice for the Public
In response to the incident, the Bank of Mauritius has urged the public to exercise “extreme vigilance.”
Officials have issued a set of immediate recommendations for anyone who may be affected:
- Monitor Accounts: Regularly check bank accounts and financial statements for any unusual activity.
- Report Suspicious Activity: Contact your banking institution immediately if any unauthorised transactions are detected.
- Beware of Scams: Be cautious of unsolicited communications. The central bank advises the public to verify the authenticity of all messages before responding to prevent falling victim to fraud or phishing attempts.
