Australian Tourist, 65, Rescued in Blue Bay, Critical in Hospital

The man was rescued in Blue Bay and rushed to intensive care after a snorkeling accident. The incident happened on Monday, July 22, around 12:50 p.m., inside the Blue Bay Marine Park.

The Australian man, visiting Mauritius, was in distress while snorkeling. The Blue Bay National Coast Guard responded quickly to the emergency and saved him.

He was then taken by ambulance to Mahébourg Hospital, then transferred to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle, and finally moved to Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis.

He was admitted to intensive care, where his condition remains critical.

The tourist arrived in Mauritius the day before, July 21, with his 67-year-old partner. Both are Australian nationals. The couple was scheduled to leave the island the day after the incident.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Officers from the National Coast Guard and the Tourism Police are involved in the inquiry.
