Bernard Maigrot, a 63-year-old businessman, has won his appeal in the case of Vanessa Lagesse’s murder. On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Supreme Court overturned his original 15-year prison sentence.

Maigrot was convicted on August 1, 2024, by the Court of Assizes for the killing of Vanessa Lagesse, a 39-year-old fashion stylist.

However, in the appeal, the Full Bench of the Supreme Court, including Chief Justice Bibi Rehana Mungly-Gulbul and judges David Chan Kan Cheong and Kesnaytee Bissoonauth, ruled in his favor.

The court found that there was no direct or circumstantial evidence linking Maigrot to the crime.

The court also considered his alibi during the trial. As a result, his 15-year prison sentence has been canceled.
