Gujadhur Secures Rs 200K Following Bramer Bank Long-Fought Justice Battle
Yatemani Gujadhur, the former vice-president of Bramer Banking Corporation Ltd (BBCL), has successfully negotiated a settlement of Rs 200,000 with the State. This agreement follows his original claim for Rs 30 million, which he asserted was warranted due to what he described as an unfair and hasty arrest.
The Supreme Court, under the leadership of Justice Rita Teelock, has approved this settlement, effectively closing a legal battle that Gujadhur has fought since his arrest in 2015.
Although the Rs 200,000 compensation might appear considerable to some, it does little to address Gujadhur’s assertions of mistreatment, especially as the defendants—including the State, the Commissioner of Police, former Assistant Commissioner Hemant Jangi, and Assistant Superintendent Nemraj Dayan—have all denied any responsibility.
With the guidance of Senior Counsel Me. Robin Ramburn and the assistance of Me. Shivangi Ramburn, Gujadhur has consistently maintained that his arrest was both unwarranted and rushed.
His legal troubles began when he became involved in an investigation into a Rs 40 million loan granted to Navin Ramgoolam on 18 November 2010, intended for the purchase of a bungalow in Roches-Noires.
Brought into the spotlight, Gujadhur was summoned by the Central Criminal Investigation Department on 29 September 2015.
After holding pivotal positions at BBCL from 2008 to 2013, he was arrested a month later, on 27 October.
However, his fortunes began to shift in February 2016, when the court in Curepipe dismissed the provisional charge of “conspiracy to defraud” against him.
By December of the same year, the Director of Public Prosecutions declared the matter closed, affirming that no charges would be laid against him.
Thus, the narrative reveals itself—a tale imbued with deep emotional resonance, illustrating the struggles of a man seeking justice in a system that at times appears to have failed him.
While the Rs 200,000 settlement offered him a degree of resolution, the lingering impact of this protracted quest for justice remained a significant chapter in his life story.
