ITA Airways Announces New Route to Mauritius from Rome
In an exciting development for travel enthusiasts, ITA Airways has revealed plans to launch flights to the idyllic island of Mauritius, beginning on 7th November 2025. This is marking a significant step in the Italian airline’s quest to broaden its long-haul services, following its successful routes to the Maldives.
The announcement was made by Sandro Pappalardo, the airline’s president, at the Milan International Tourism Fair, drawing attention from industry experts and travellers alike.
ITA Airways has committed to operating two flights each week between Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and the stunning paradise of Mauritius.
Passengers can expect convenient departures on Fridays and Sundays at 10 p.m., landing in Mauritius at 11:20 a.m. the following day.
Return journeys will take off from Mauritius on Saturdays and Mondays at 10:10 p.m., with a scheduled arrival back in Rome at 6:20 a.m.
Originally intended for the 2025-2026 winter season, this promising new route may be extended beyond its inaugural period, responding to the rising demand for travel from Italy to Mauritius.
Recent statistics highlighted a surge in tourist arrivals from Italy, with 29,489 Italian visitors recorded in 2024 alone.
Notably, 2,788 of these travellers were in Mauritius in January, indicating a growing interest in the picturesque destination.
In a twist of fate, Air Mauritius previously announced a bi-weekly service to Rome, set to operate from 16th October 2024 to 30th April 2025.
However, former CEO Charles Cartier regrettably cancelled these plans in July, creating a gap in connectivity that ITA Airways is now poised to fill.
As ITA Airways embarks on this new venture, it opens a door to extraordinary travel experiences, allowing passengers to immerse themselves in the beauty and culture of Mauritius.
