Nursing Staff Rising Shortage: Nurses Union Sounds the Alarm

Published

on

The Nurses Union has raised concerns about a “growing shortage” of nurses in hospitals and medical clinics, particularly in light of the recent inauguration of new healthcare facilities. Nasser Essa, the union’s president, emphasizes that the pace of recruitment is not keeping up with the opening of these new structures, leading to excessive workloads and burnout among existing staff.

Essa warned that this situation jeopardizes the quality of care provided to patients.

In response to these concerns, the Ministry of Health asserts that it is actively recruiting nurses, with regular announcements of job vacancies.

The ministry also highlighted its initiatives to hire nurses trained by Polytechnics Mauritius and other educational institutions on a contractual basis to help address the staffing shortfall.
