Shifting Demographics: Finance Minister Urges Population to Make More Babies
In an effort to address declining population numbers, the Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy has encouraged Mauritians to have more children.
Recent statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics show a drop of 1,482 people from July 2022 to July 2023.
The provision of childcare facilities in major companies is being considered.
The minister hopes that the implementation of this system will become a reality in the near future.
The minister also stressed the need for incentives to encourage Mauritian couples to have more children and not rely solely on foreign labour.
